Display Energy Certificate

A Display Energy Certificate (DEC) is a certificate which shows the actual operational energy efficiency of a building.

This is in contrast to the EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) which gives an Energy Rating of the building itself regardless of how it is actually used and operated in practice.

A DEC gives an indication of how efficiently the building is being operated, taking into account the type of building and the actual energy consumed over a 12 month period.

An Advisory Report (AR) accompanies the first year DEC and is valid for 7 years. This report makes recommendations as to improvements that can be made that will improve efficiency and reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

The DEC should be clearly displayed in A3 colour format at all times. DECs are required to be updated and reissued every 12 months..

The DEC will contain energy consumption information for the previous 3 year period. Ideally, energy consumption will reduce year on year as new energy saving measures are introduced.

If you need any advice or assistance with Display Energy Certificates (DECs) please contact Ian or Steve at EDP by any of the means above.
