On Friday 8th of July 2011 three of Engineering Design Practices fit and healthy employees competed in the Property Triathlon held in London.
Simon Olver one of EDP’S best mechanical engineers swapped his brains for swimming trunks and took to the cold lake of Dorney to swim over 750 meters. As he raced to the finishing line, Mike Melling a senior mechanical engineer was warming up his wheels and preparing for the 20km bike ride ahead of him.
As Simon and his award winning breast stroke headed out of the water he passed the baton on to Mike who had come prepared, being the experience mechanical engineer that he is he used his knowledge to amplify the wind power behind him and was racing ahead. As Mike was flying with the wind, Steve Rysdale the Managing Director of EDP was warming up his calf muscles ready to hit the long and winding 5km road ahead of him.
Off he went with a massive head start thanks to Mikes wisdom and muscles. At the end of the race we all waited in anticipation, Simon with his towel wrapped round his head, Mike with a big grin thinking we must have won. Then we finally saw some runners coming though the finishing line, but there was no sign of Steve.
After about an hour the last of the runners were coming though the finishing line, but yet there was still no sign of Steve. As we were about to give up and go looking for him we saw him in the distance on his hands and knees crawling though the finishing line. We all cheered picked him up and the only words that came from his breathless mouth was “I need a pint.”
