Solar water heaters work best within southerly orientations at a 45° incline. Glazed flat plate collectors are heavier and take up more area but are more aesthetically pleasing than evacuated tube collectors.

Solar water heaters can be integrated into the building fabric, mounted on the ground or on the façade. When used in conjunction with biomass boiler and PV cells they could provide a complete low energy system for houses and commercial properties.
