EDP are currently looking for a Mechanical Engineer, to be based in our Exeter office.
The Mechanical Engineer will report to the Director of Building Services, with a key liaison and supporting role to the mechanical, electrical and public health services on projects across the United Kingdom. The Mechanical Engineer will be part of the key design team to assist with the preparation of schemes across a wide variety of sectors at sites across the United Kingdom.
The role will be demanding and require a forward thinking individual whom is also a self-starter to be able to multi task and manage more than one live project at any given time.
Dedication to the role will be required to succeed, the benefits and rewards will be seen from growing a small business to a multi-discipline Building Services Consulting business over the next 5 years.
The applicant will have a good understanding of the design of mechanical services across a variety of building types and industry sectors, and with a reasonable understanding of electrical and public health services design.
Key principal accountabilities are outlined below.
Assist with the preparation of Design schemes:
- Undertaking mechanical services calculations including heating distribution, domestic water, ventilation systems, plant room design and equipment selections.
- Preparation of CAD drawings for mechanical services designs.
- Preparation of specifications
- Assist with the preparation of electrical services drawings and schemes.

The Senior Electrical Engineer will report to the Director of Building Services, with a key liaison and supporting role to the mechanical, electrical and public health services on projects. The Senior Electrical Engineer will be part of the key design team to assist with the preparation of schemes across a wide variety of sectors at sites across the United Kingdom.

The applicant will have an excellent technical understanding of the design of electrical services across a variety of building types and industry sectors, and with a reasonable understanding of mechanical and public health services design.
Key principal accountabilities are outlined below.
1. Assist with the preparation of Design schemes:
- Undertaking electrical services calculations including power distribution, lighting, fire detection and alarm, nurse call, lightning protection and other ancillary electrical systems.
- Preparation of CAD drawings for electrical services designs.
- Preparation of specifications of works for electrical services schemes.
2. Project management:
- Manage, monitor and control the delivery of electrical services design scheme, from both a time and cost perspective.
- Liaise closely with clients, architects and other design team members to deliver successful projects.
3. Quality assurance:
- Take overall responsibility for the electrical services design for all projects within the office from a technical aspect.

Steve founded EDP Environmental in 2006 and has developed the company to become a well-established name in the construction industry. Steve is the Managing Director of EDP Environmental and is responsible for the business development, client satisfaction and financial management.
Steve has over 35 years’ experience in project management and design team leadership across all sectors of the industry.
NIKKI MERCIECA
Director of Finance
Nikki is the Finance Director and is responsible for the financial running of the entire company. Nikki brings a wealth of knowledge to the team, having run a number of businesses across different industries for the last 30 years.
Based in the South West office, Nikki and her team provide the full remit of financial services across all EDP Environmental offices.
IAN SCOTT
Low Carbon Consultant
Ian has been part of EDP Environmental since its founding in 2006. He is a chartered engineer MCIBSE, MIMechE with a wide range of experience in energy management, project management, engineering management, engineering design and consultancy.
Ian is currently responsible for the Energy Division and part of the Senior Management Team.
SIMON OLVER
Mechanical Associate Director
After joining EDP Environmental as a trainee Mechanical Engineer in 2009, and completing his training, Simon has now established himself as an invaluable member of the mechanical team.
Based in the South West office, Simon is a Senior Mechanical Engineer and is responsible for Project Management and Mechanical designs on a range of projects.
DAVID DYER
Mechanical Associate Director
David joined EDP Environmental in 2012 to develop work across the South East. David has a wealth of experience in MEP design consultancy, having worked for over 25 years in the industry.
Based in the South East Office, David is a Mechanical Associate Director and part of the Senior Management Team responsible for MEP design on a range of projects.
DELLA SIMS
Office Manager
Della has been part of EDP Environmental since its founding in 2006. As well as her duties as PA to the directors and a member of the Senior Management Team, Della is responsible for the marketing of the EDP Environmental brand.
MIKE YATES
Electrical Associate Director
Mike joined EDP Environmental in January 2023, starting up the new Fareham office. Mike has over 16 years’ experience in building services sector from both a design and construction perspective.
As a senior member of the design team, he is actively involved with the electrical design and project management across all sectors within the EDP Environmental.
NICHOLA OUTRAM
Utilities and Public Health Engineer
In July 2019 Nichola joined EDP Environmental as a Junior Mechanical Engineer based in the Exeter office. With 3 years’ experience in the industry, Nichola will be working alongside our team of engineers to produce Mechanical designs for our Exeter Office using her knowledge of the Cymap software.
NATALIE MERCIECA
Accounts Manager
Since joining EDP Environmental in 2019, Natalie has completed her AAT Certificate in Accounting Levels 2 and 3 and her AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting Level 4.
Natalie is based in our Head Office in Exeter and is responsible for the accounts within the business.
ANDREW HEAVENS
Electrical Engineer
Andrew joined the Exeter office in January 2019 as a Junior Electrical Engineer. Andrew has been working in the industry for 2 years and with his knowledge brings a lot of expertise to the EDP Environmental electrical team across all sectors.
SIMON CUTHBERT
Senior Electrical Engineer
Simon is an Electrical Engineer with over 40 years’ experience in the industry and brings a wealth of knowledge to the team.
Based in the South West office, Simon is responsible for the Electrical design on a range of projects across all sectors.
PAUL PRISCOTT
Principal Electrical Engineer
Paul joined the South West Office in August 2019, as a Principal Electrical Engineer. Paul has over 40 years' experience in the industry and will be working with the Electrical Team on projects across all sectors.
DARREN BUDDELL
Mechanical Engineer
Darren first joined EDP Environmental in 2016 as a trainee Mechanical Engineer. After successfully completing his training, Darren has become a valued member of the Mechanical team.
Based in the South East office, Darren is responsible for providing Mechanical designs on a range of projects.
