SPIRE HOSPITAL – DUNEDIN
EDP Environmental were appointed by St Georges NHS Trust to prepare the RIBA Stage 4 design for the refurbishment of 4 number operating theatres within the hospital. The contractor was let as a Design and Build contract, and EDP Environmental were appointed as Contract Administrators and technical advisors on behalf of the Trust.
Our Role
The works were undertaken in a live environment, with surgical operations being undertaken in adjoining rooms, meaning noise and dust had to be kept to a minimum.

NUFFIELD HEALTH STERILE SERVICES
The Sterile Services Decontamination Project involved creating 6 strategically situated Decontamination Centre’s each servicing the operating theatre instrument sterilisation requirements for a cluster of up to 9 hospitals. Each unit was created in an existing 1100m2 industrial unit which was designed and “fitted-out” to healthcare and clinical laboratory standards to conform with the Department of Health’s new guidelines for Decontamination Centres (HBN 13).
Our Role
EDP Environmental was chosen by Nuffield Health to carry-out the detailed MEP and Process Design. Because the footprint of each site was different it was necessary to adapt the base design to suit each unit. During the process we worked very closely with two of the authors of Health Building Note 13 (HBN 13).

NUFFIELD HEALTH PROJECT MANAGER
The government brought in new legislation with regard to the washing and sterilising of surgical instruments in the light of the CJD discovery. Nuffield Hospital could not comply with the new regulations within their current facilities.The Sterile Services Decontamination Project involved creating 6 strategically situated Decontamination Centre's each servicing the operating theatre instrument sterilisation requirements for a cluster of up to 9 hospitals. Our Role
EDP Environmental was chosen by Nuffield Health to Project Manage this complex transition. EDP managed a team including Healthcare Planners, Architects, Logistics Consultants, Specialist Equipment Manufacturers and their Construction Partners.
Two of our team were part authors of Health Building Note 13 (HBN 13).

NUFFIELD HEALTH HOSPITAL REFURBISHMENT
Nuffield Health developed 6 Decontamination Centres to replace local sterile services facilities in the hospitals. This meant that the existing decontamination equipment needed to be removed from each of Nuffield Health’s 39 hospital sites. The areas were then refurbished for a range of new uses.
Our Role
EDP Project Managed the specialists companies and Nuffield Health staff at each of the 39 hospitals to the completion of each refurbishment.

St George’s Theatres
Refurbishment of 4 UCV Operating Theatres at St George’s Teaching Hospital in Tooting, South London. This was part of a rolling programme of works to refurbish many of their 43 Operating Theatres.

A new block of student accommodation apartments above a ground floor retail space for a Tesco Express.
Our Role
The full MEP Design of 8 different module types, the MEP Design of the common areas and landlord’s facilities and the MEP provisions for the retail shell. Part L Compliance and Energy Strategy.

ASCOT CORNER
The redevelopment of a brown field site with a block of 14 Apartments which were pre-built in modular form off-site.
The designs for the various modules differed slightly so it was important to distinguish between the generic and module specific elements.
Our Role
EDP Environmental provided the fully detailed MEP Design both for the modules and the site specific elements. The EDP team visited the factory on a number of occasions to ensure that the MEP installations were carried out in accordance with UK standards.
